Overview
Poetry is where most of the longer work begins. These pieces sit between the screenplay and the novel: short, introspective and written from personal experience, emotion and observation.
My collection initially was utilised for an assignment in the second year at university, often stemming from a prompted stimulus, yet poetry became a means to express my personal experiences and thoughts. Through reworking and development, my portfolio is ongoing and constantly edited and redeveloped for viewing and publishing.
Creative approach
Each poem starts from a single image or thought, which is developed into a rough poetry draft. Then, through redeveloping after peer reviews, the poems are reworked. Written with honest personal experiences and real emotion.
Process
- Notebook drafts and small phrases saved in my notes app. Often written without filter and purely on creative intention.
- Redrafting for rhythm and image. Playing with structure, form and language to create narratives with visual motifs.
- Recieved Peer assessed feedback and 1 on 1 discussion with constructuve feedback and suggestions for edits. Reading aloud and cutting.
- Final drafting and editing for the collection.
