Overview
A work of long-form fiction currently in development, focusing on observations of people, the world around us, and how experiences shape our environment. Drafting, redrafting and structural work are ongoing.
Independent, in development
Creative approach
Observation as a method. The novel grows out of small, overheard moments and the private stories imagined behind them that trigger an emotional response in each individual. The novel follows a structure similar to Sally Rooney's 'Normal People' or Clare Daverley's 'Talking at Night', however, it uses a non-linear structure to present the events of the protagonist, and her lack of control over the world around her.
Process
- The initial concept centred around observation of people and the world around us. Outlined an initial plot line and central theme to start with.
- Writing the first draft: experimenting with structure and characterisation, which led to further development of plot, characters and the central premise.
- Redrafting and refinement - A stage that shall be underway once the first draft has been completed
- Excerpt/sections for pitching and publication.
